It's time to start thinking about your clinical externship site!
We recommend that you start this process at the end of Semester One, beginning of Semester Two to ensure there is sufficient time for you to secure a spot. It can take time for sites to respond and there may not be availability in your first choice so giving yourself more time will make the process easier for you.
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY.As a reminder, Cardinal Tech has affiliation agreements with multiple sites,
but we cannot guarantee those sites will be available to coincide specifically with your externship start date. The availability of placement is determined by the clinical site and NOT Cardinal Tech. Additionally, please
understand that you may have to travel to a clinical site. Not everyone will be able to secure a site close to where they live. Consider this when making your selection.
CHOOSING AN AFFILIATE CLINICAL SITE:If you're choosing a clinical site from those we are currently affiliated with as outlined in the list below, follow these instructions: - Review the list of clinical sites below.
- Email admin@cardinal-tech.com the sites you're interested in. Please give 3 options, in order of preference. This will save time if your first choice is unavailable and other options need to be explored.
- The Cardinal Tech team will contact the site on your behalf to confirm if they have a slot available for you at your appropriate externship time.
- The Cardinal Tech team will contact you with a response once the site has confirmed or declined your slot. PLEASE NOTE: this process is not immediate as most hospital departments are very busy. Please be patient with this process.
- You will have 24 hours to respond to a site offer. If the Cardinal Tech team do not hear from you within 24 hours, your spot may be offered to another student, and you will then have to move on to your second choice, etc.
- Your clinical paperwork MUST be turned in during the appropriate week to keep your slot.
- If you decline a slot at a site we've arranged for you, it is then your responsibility to find your own clinical site from that point.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Cardinal Tech communicates with our affiliated sites to try and confirm a spot for you. However, you as the student should also be actively looking for additional sites outside of those listed in case there is no availability at our affiliated sites.
- To work with one of our sites, you must be able to commit to 3, eight-hour days per week. This is because we need to be thoughtful of the students in the classes behind you. If you're unable to attend at least 3 days per week, you will back up the extern site availability for the classes that started after you. Cardinal Tech supports student placement for the above conditions only. If you're unable to attend at least 3 eight-hour days per week, you will have to finalize your own location.
- All students should have their extern site confirmed by the end of the didactics portion of your program. You have the support of the Cardinal Tech team in helping secure a spot with an affiliated site until you have completed your didactic portion of the program. If you do not have a clinical spot by didactic completion, you will have to finalize your own location.
***IF YOU'RE CHOOSING YOUR OWN CLINICAL SITE FROM A LOCATION NOT LISTED BELOW, PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
- Call the hospital's HR department and inquire as to whether they will accept you as a student in their non-invasive cardiology lab.
- If they say yes, please have them email an affiliation agreement to the Cardinal Tech team at admin@cardinal-tech.com.
**If you would like to have your externship at a physician office, you will need to call the office and speak with the Office Manager to inquire as to whether they accept students for clinical externship. If they agree to accept you, please have them email an affiliation agreement to the Carinal Tech team at the above email address.
